Naomi Osaka refuses to speak to media and consequently the organizers said she will face expulsion from the French Open

World number two Naomi Osaka refuses to speak to media and consequently the organizers said she will face expulsion from the French Open and future Grand Slams. Last week Osaka said she will not give any news conferences during Roland Garros to protect her mental health. As a result, she was fined $15,000 for not talking to media after Sunday's first-round win. The organizers said: A core element of the Grand Slam regulations is the responsibility of the players to engage with the media. So, she faces more substantial fines if she continues this way. She said expecting players to answer questions after a defeat is like kicking a person while they're down. We're often asked questions that we've been asked multiple times before or the ones that bring doubt to our minds. I'm just not going to subject myself to that. Grand Slam rules state players can be fined up to $20,000 for failing to meet their media obligations. Many athletes applauded Osaka's stance and many accepted that speaking to the media is part of the job.
